Cross-border coordinated sea-land approach interconnecting ports of the Adriatic Sea with airports and urban areas

CROSSCONNECT, "Cross-border Coordinated Sea-Land Approach Interconnecting Ports of the Adriatic Sea with Airports and Urban Areas", is funded by the Interreg Italy–Croatia Cross-border Cooperation Programme, specifically under the Standard Call for Project Proposals, Specific Objective 3.1. focused on developing and improving sustainable, climate-resilient, intelligent and intermodal mobility, including improved access to TEN-T and cross-border mobility.

Project Objective

The overall objective of CROSSCONNECT is to develop a multimodal coordinated sea-land approach based on sustainable and technologically advanced solutions. These solutions will connect Croatian and Italian ports with urban areas and airports, thereby improving passenger mobility, all with the aim of cross-border cooperation.

Main Project Activities and Results

  • Assessment and capitalization of available knowledge derived from the Interreg ADRIGREEN and INTERPASS projects.
  • Establishment of a cross-border technical working group, composed of key experts (international experts in intermodal techniques and methodologies), stakeholders and representatives of project partners.
  • Definition of a cross-border transfer strategy with selection of solutions for implementation according to the multimodal approach.
  • Definition and implementation of pilot projects and testing of innovative green and ICT solutions in the transport sector.
  • Definition of the CROSSCONNECT strategic plan for intermodal passenger transport between ports and hinterland (urban areas and airports) with the aim of improving passenger experience and tourism offerings.
  • Organization of strategic round tables with port authorities with the aim of their concrete involvement in adopting intermodal solutions developed and tested during the project, and engaging in creating new or modernized connections in other areas.

  • South Adriatic Sea Port Authority – Ports of Bari, Brindisi, Manfredonia, Barletta, Monopoli and Termoli (Project Partner 7)
  • GPP Brindisi S.p.A (Project Partner 8)

Associated partners are:

  • Port of Rijeka
  • Port of Ancona

Project implementation period: 01.03.2024. – 30.04.2026.
