DUBROVNIK

Dubrovnik - city of unique cultural and political history (Dubrovnik Republic, municipal statue from 1272), world famous historical heritage and beauty ( it is drawn in UNESCO"s registry of world"s cultural heritage) - one of the most attractive and known Mediterranean cities. With extraordinary natural beauties and preserved nature, Dubrovnik is a city with rich tourist offer. City of the hotels, beautiful surroundings, envious ecological standard is attractive in every time of the year. Some kind of geographical isolation bridges high traffic standard - air transportation, speed hydrofoils.

For a good sightseeing of Dubrovnik, its treasure and monuments you need more days. During the stroll through Stradun and narrow streets and shops, historical city wall and fortresses visitors meet with thousand year old beauty which reminds on a sea shell retracted in urban  core, centuries of brickworks, scrabbling, carving,  face with Rector Palace"s history, library treasure, the oldest pharmacy on the European south.

Dubrovnik offers variety of museums and galleries with jewels of Croatian Heritage. Dubrovnik museum in Rector"s Palace in its cultural and historical part has 15 500 objects. In authentically atrium there is a collection of furniture from 17th - 19th century, rector"s and councilor uniforms, noblemen"s clothes. Maritime museum ( St John"s fortress)  in its permanent collection offers different fabric connected with Dubrovnik and Croatian maritime affairs, with special accent on history of Dubrovnik Republic. Museum of Franciscan monastery holds all inventory of old pharmacy, works of old Dubrovnik gold works, embroidery and painter workshops. In the museum of Dominican monastery there are valuable examples of Old Dubrovnik Painting school from 15th and 16th century, sculptures, golden objects, writings, incunabula and music notes. In Dubrovnik Cathedral"s Treasury are held reliquaries from St. Blaise the saint protector the Dubrovnik, and other artist paintings and objects. In ethnographical museum Rupe you can see the image of traditional economy and rural architecture from Dubrovnik parts, national costumes, textile workshops. Also there is attractive aquarium of biological institute, which is situated in the St. John"s fortress with examples of sea fauna.

Dubrovnik is a city of rich cultural and artist life. Special place has Dubrovnik Summer Festival (from July 10th to August 25th)  which is held traditionally fro 1950. That is theater, music and folk festival and from 1956 it is inherited in the world"s festivals calendar and is known in the world. It is held on the open air stages in the Old Town ( Gundulic square, Drzic square, Lovrijenac and Revelin fortresses) or in beautiful places like Rector"s Palace and Franciscan and Dominican monastery. On the repertoire are pieces from Croatian and world classics which are performed from Croatian and foreign actors, musicians etc. - until now there were around 100 of them. Important part of the festival are folklore shows of domestic ( Linđo and Lado) and foreign folk ensembles. 

Dubrovnik city, port and tourist destination of south Dalmatian coast lays in beneath of the Srđ mountain (412 m) in the valley which is closed by Lapad and smaller rocks with the oldest part of Dubrovnik. The swamp valley between Gruž bay on north and Old Port on south and building the Stradun old city was connected in with the suburb on the other side of the valley. On that way Stradun became center of the town and its main street, connecting two opposite city entrances: Ploče gate on the east and Pile gate on the west. After building the port in the Gruž bay, Gruž becomes together with Dubrovnik one unique settlement. After that Dubrovnik  continued to grow on to Lapad bay, to lower parts of Srđ mountain and outside the city towards Župa. Climate is characterized b warm and dry summers and mild winters. Average temperature of the coldest month  - February is 4,6°C and the warmest - August 26,2°C.  Total amount of downfalls on the colder part of the year is 68% and from105 rainy days goes to spring 29, summer 14, fall 26 and winter 37. Snow falls rarely; 2554 sunny hours and Dubrovnik is one of the first sunny cities in Europe. In July daily there are 12,4 sunny hours. Vegetation is subtropical and dense, olives, almonds, citrus fruits, rosemary, laurel, Holm oak, pine, pine tree, cypress)

Southeast from the Old Town there is tourist area Ploče ( hotels and beaches), west is Lapad ( sport fields, hotels, beach, walking places), northwest is port of Gruž. Main part is tourism and maritime affairs. In the city there are main cultural institution: Sailing school, School for tourism, historical institute HAZU, Dubrovnik Summer Festival etc.
Dubrovnik has city port and Gruž port and ACI marina Dubrovnik. Old city fort is protected by breakwater Porporela, in the port can enter boats until 3 m of draft, smaller boats stop in the Bočina bay. Port of Gruž is commercial port, 2,5 km west from the Old Port of Dubrovnik. Marina Dubrovnik is situated in Komolac area in the inner part of River of Dubrovnik, 4 km away from the port of Gruž. On the traffic road (M2 E65). Airport is situated in Čilipi.
